Meet Glory

Meet Glory, an approximately 5 year old dove. We think he's a male, but it doesn't really matter, as he does not get along with other doves and must be an only dove. He was loved, but had to be given up due to his previous owner's health problems. He is very tame and sweet. I had set him on the counter in order to take his picture, and he came over to jump up on my arm. He definitely wants human companionship and to be part of a family!
If you'd like to make Glory part of your family, please fill out an Adoption Application on our website, or stop by to meet him!

Meet William

Meet William, a friendly dove:
He was found outside. We suspect that he was let loose during a wedding celebration. He is a bit skittish, but with frequent handling, is calming down.

Doves can make wonderful pets for informed owners. They make calming sounds and are gentle souls. Please e-mail or stop by if you'd like to meet William, or any of the other doves we have up for adoption!

Meet Carlos and Frances

Carlos and Frances are two of the very beautiful doves that we currently have up for adoption. They were some of the doves that had been surrendered to a local humane society. They were able to adopt some out, and asked us try to with the rest. They are in great health. They were very well taken care of, and had to be surrendered when their owner lost her house to foreclosure. They can't go home together, due to the fact that they are male and female, so we're looking for separate homes for them.

Stop by if you'd like to meet them or learn more about what's involved in dove caretaking.

Doves

We currently have six doves up for adoption. They are all tame and handleable. Doves are among the underrated species of birds. They are very gentle, can't really bite, and typically enjoy just being with you and are nowhere near as demanding as most parrots.

If given proper care, doves can live around 20 years. If you're interested in adding a dove to your house, we can teach you how to properly care for your new pet.
Doves love to swing! (As an aside, look at the nosy severe macaw in the background!)

A dove invasion!

If you've been to the Center lately, you may have noticed that it seems like doves are taking over! We currently have 10 doves up for adoption, including 6 that were found abandoned in a Chicago apartment.

Fiona, pictured below, was one of the abandoned ones. As you can see, the right side of her face was attacked, most likely by another bird. However, she is incredibly sweet and does not suffer any hardships because of her injury.

How could someone abandon these adorable creatures?
Luckily, these guys found their way here, en route to finding their forever home!
If you have room in your house and heart for a dove or two, please stop by.
Doves can make great pets. They are nowhere near as demanding as parrots, and are unable to bite (a big bonus!) The cooing sounds can be very peaceful.

Here are Chip and Dale, two ringneck doves that are currently up for adoption. They are very bonded to each other and will be placed together. They are very tame and handleable. We just love this picture as they are looking away from each other, and an adorable little budgie is stretching in the middle!

Chip and Dale, along with some of the other birds, are living in a huge Cages By Design aviary that the company donated to the Center.

We currently have quite a few doves up for adoption. Doves can make great pets for gentle children, with parents' help, of course!

Here is some more information on keeping doves as pets. The doves that we have up for adoption are several variations of ringneck doves.
